Utility task vehicles (UTVs) like the Polaris Xpedition and General XP are crossover side-by-sides designed to be versatile, functional, and comfortable. With seating for two to four people, they’re larger than standard ATVs and feature well-appointed interiors.
If you’re looking for the perfect UTV, you may be asking yourself whether to purchase a 2024 Polaris XPedition vs. General XP. Let the pros at Jeff Schmitt Lawn and Motorsports break down the key differences so you can make an informed decision.
Power and Performance Specs for Two Popular Polaris UTVs
The Polaris XPedition and the General XP are powerful side-by-side crossovers capable of tackling demanding jobs and rough terrain. The XPedition features a ProStar 1000 Gen 2 4-stroke DOHC twin-cylinder engine good for 114 hp, while the General XP has a 100-hp 4-stroke DOHC twin-cylinder engine, making the XPedition slightly more powerful.
The General XP has a 1,100-lb payload capacity and a 1500-lb tow rating. The XPedition has a higher max tow rating of 2,000 lbs but a lower payload capacity of 1,030 lbs. Both UTVs feature rear dumping boxes capable of holding up to 600 lbs.
Polaris XPedition Selection
Comfort, Technology, and Available Features in Each UTV
The Polaris XPedition is available at two trim levels, the Ultimate and Northstar. Both have interior features that maximize comfort, including a rear camera with a 7” display and RIDE COMMAND integration, a 900 W Stator charging system, and a JBL TrailPro 410 audio system.
The Polaris General XP comes in Sport, Premium, and Ultimate models. However, none can match the XPedition in terms of comfort and convenience. The 7” display is available only on the Ultimate models. Unlike the XPedition, the General doesn’t offer heat and air conditioning or lockable full doors and power windows at any trim level.
Budget Considerations for the XPedition and General XP
If you’re on a strict budget, the General XP 1000 Sport is the most affordable of the Polaris UTVs we’ve described, with a starting MSRP of $24,499 compared to the Polaris XPedition XP Ultimate, which starts at $31,999.
When it comes to value, the situation is a little more complicated. The Polaris XPedition is more expensive but has a broader range of standard and optional features. You’ll also get seating for up to five compared to the four seats in the largest General XP.
